Fall Camping and Halloween Events
It’s been a peaceful week at Kal-Haven Outpost. Now that school is back in session, the campground is quieter during the weekdays, but by the weekend, the camping spirit is alive, and the sites fill up. RV sites are fully booked, along with cabins, glamping tents, and our RV rental. The tent sites? They’re busy, though not as packed as during the summer months. The unpredictable fall weather and chilly nights seem to keep all but the most dedicated tent campers away.
King and I used to be all about tent camping, but as we’ve gotten older, getting up off the ground in the morning became a bit more difficult. We totally get it.
The campground will officially close for the season at the end of October, and we’re all preparing for the final month of this year’s camping season.
Fall Festival Weekends at Kal-Haven Outpost
King spent the week decorating for two Fall Festival weekends scheduled for October 5th and October 19th. These Halloween-themed events will include activities like Trick or Trunk, costume parades, scavenger hunts, pumpkin bowling, and more! We’ve even got a food truck ready to serve up some tasty treats. And guess what? The entire community is invited!
It was pretty brave of Heather and Rob, the campground owners, to give King free rein with a garage full of decorations. His creativity can be a bit… unconventional (and not just in a spooky Halloween way). Midweek, Heather asked me, “Do you think he’ll mind if I move a few things around?” My answer: “Umm, no, he probably won’t even notice!”
Watching King (and later, his partner in crime, Scott, the campground’s maintenance guy) drive around in the mules, adding finishing touches to the decorations, has been a real treat.
Favorite Decorations: Halloween Fun
My favorite decoration? The rowboat with skeletons that they placed in the pond. I missed seeing them put it together, but Scott sent me some photos of the finished project. Later, he and King came by our campsite to check if I had received the photos and to ask what I thought. (Spoiler: two thumbs up!)
Embracing Fall at Kal-Haven Outpost
As we approach the end of the season, fall is definitely in the air. We still sleep with the trailer windows open, but we’ve added an extra blanket. Tuna salad sandwiches have been swapped out for sloppy joes, and fresh summer salads have been replaced with roasted vegetables. Morning walks with Petra now happen in semi-light, as the sun rises later and later each morning. By the end of October, we’ll either have her adjusted to sleeping in or we’ll be walking with a flashlight.
So, as we wrap up the camping season at Kal-Haven Outpost, remember be kind, don’t post nasty memes, and vote.
